- Estrada da Lagoa Azul, Linhó Quinta da, Penha Longa, 2714-511 Sintra, Portugal
Penha Longa Resort is a 204-key historic 5-star resort in Sintra, part of the Lisbon District in Portugal, about 30 km from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Managed under the Ritz-Carlton brand, it offers planning-reference indoor and outdoor event spaces including a 685-sq-m ballroom and a 540-sq-m garden, though pricing, exact capacities and wedding-specific vendor policies all require direct confirmation before this venue can be confidently proposed to a client.
ABOUT THE PENHA LONGA RESORT
A Historic Portuguese Estate Under Ritz-Carlton Management
Penha Longa is a historic estate in Sintra, a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape just outside Lisbon known for its palaces and romantic hillside architecture (neighbouring properties in the area include the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, for reference). The resort operates as a 5-star property under Ritz-Carlton management, with a combined inventory of 204 rooms, apartments and suites.
Beyond those core facts, several operational details that would typically shape a wedding recommendation, exact suite inventory, pool/spa/salon specifics, and the property’s actual approach to Indian wedding ritual requirements are not yet confirmed and are flagged as open items below. This page is best used as a research starting point for evaluating Penha Longa as a candidate venue, not as a finished recommendation.
- 204 rooms, apartments and suites (combined inventory)
- Managed under the Ritz-Carlton brand
- 25 meeting rooms advertised, including a 685-sq-m flagship ballroom (Sala Coroa)
- A 540-sq-m garden space (Jardim Nuncio) for outdoor functions
- About 30 km from Lisbon Airport (LIS), airport-to-property transfer time not yet independently verified
- No nonstop flight from Delhi (DEL) to Lisbon (LIS), a genuine logistics factor for an Indian wedding guest list
Logistics for an Indian Wedding Guest List
- Gateway airport: Lisbon Humberto Delgado (LIS), an international scheduled airport with seasonal variation in flight availability
- From Delhi specifically: no nonstop DEL-LIS route was found as of the research date (28 Sep 2026); guests from India would need a connecting itinerary
- From other common origins: nonstop service was found from JFK (New York), EWR (Newark), IAD (Washington Dulles), SFO (San Francisco), and DXB (Dubai, via Emirates) useful if guests are routing through a hub rather than flying direct from India
- Ground transfer: arrive at LIS, then pre-book a car or coach to the venue; airport-to-property drive time itself has not yet been verified and should be confirmed with a dated operator estimate before being quoted to a client
- Sintra town centre: approximately 4.7 km from the property (listing distance; exact route basis unspecified)
Climate and Timing
Average low/high temperatures (°C), based on the Lisbon Portela weather station as a regional proxy, Sintra’s hills typically run cooler and mistier than this data suggests:
| Month | Low / High (°C) |
|---|---|
| Jan | 8 / 15 |
| Feb | 9 / 16 |
| Mar | 11 / 18 |
| Apr | 12 / 20 |
| May | 14 / 22 |
| Jun | 16 / 26 |
| Jul | 18 / 28 |
| Aug | 18 / 28 |
| Sep | 17 / 26 |
| Oct | 15 / 23 |
| Nov | 11 / 18 |
| Dec | 9 / 15 |
Best months: June and September. May is also workable with a rain-back-up plan in place. July-August run dry but warm and windy; October–April are wetter. This is a planning recommendation based on climate averages, not a weather forecast for any specific date.
WEDDING VENUES AT THE PENHA LONGA RESORT
| Venue | Size | Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sala Coroa (flagship ballroom) | 685 sq. m | 500 banquet / 700 reception | Part of 25 advertised meeting rooms; figures may include divisible sub-rooms |
| Jardim Nuncio (garden) | 540 sq. m | 500 theatre / 650 reception | Other gardens and lawns on the property require separate capacity plans |
| Forte da Cruz | — | — | Off-site, not on resort grounds. Do not present this as part of Penha Longa’s own venue inventory. |
This table carries the same caution as the source research it’s built from: do not add capacities across these spaces as if they could be combined for one larger event, each figure reflects that specific venue’s own layout. Confirm a current wedding-specific seating plan for the actual guest count directly with the property before presenting any number to a client, since the 25-meeting-rooms figure in particular likely reflects a corporate/conference capacity reference rather than a wedding-specific breakdown.
Rooms & Suites at Penha Longa Resort
Confirm suite inventory directly with the property, this wasn’t resolved in current research beyond the combined 204-room, apartment and suite total. Pool, spa and salon specifics are similarly unconfirmed and flagged as open items.

This isn't yet confirmed. A real Indian/Indian-fusion wedding did hold its ceremony here, but the reception for that same wedding was held at a separate venue (Quinta da Bella Vista), not at Penha Longa. Written confirmation is still needed on Indian/Jain meal and kitchen capability, outside caterer access, havan/fire permissions, baraat routing, and amplified-music cutoff times before this property can be confidently proposed for a full celebration.
The flagship Sala Coroa ballroom is rated for up to 500 banquet / 700 reception guests, and the Jardim Nuncio garden for up to 500 theatre / 650 reception guests but these are planning-reference figures from the property's general meeting/event material, not a confirmed wedding-specific seating plan. Confirm directly for an actual guest count.
Not available, pricing requires a direct quote from the property based on dates, room block and meal plan.
There's no nonstop flight from Delhi to Lisbon, guests would need a connecting itinerary. Nonstop options exist from several other major hubs (New York, Newark, Washington Dulles, San Francisco, and Dubai via Emirates), which may be more convenient routing for some guests depending on where they're travelling from.
204 rooms, apartments and suites combined, the exact suite-specific breakdown hasn't been confirmed yet.
No, it's referenced in some sources alongside Penha Longa, but it is explicitly off-site and not on the resort's own grounds. Don't present it as one of Penha Longa's own venues.
June and September are the strongest months climatically. May can work with a rain-back-up plan. July–August are dry but can be warm and windy; October through April are wetter. This is based on regional climate averages, not a specific forecast.
