Walk through Raffles Udaipur and it feels less like a hotel and more like a European country estate that happened to land on an Indian lake. Domes, high ceilings and colonnades set the tone, but look closer and you’ll spot Rajput Mughal touches worked into the details – jali screens, chhatris, Tikri artwork on the walls. It’s an odd combination on paper. In person it works, mostly because neither style is treated as decoration; both feel structural to the place.
Getting there is part of the pitch. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Maharana Pratap Airport to the Raffles Lakeshore Pavilion and from there guests board a private boat for the crossing to the island. No cars, no mainland traffic once you’re on the water – just the lake and then the property comes into view.
